If you love plants, then you must love trimming it as well. It will not just beautify your tree; you will also have fun at the same time. In trimming your tree, you should have the equipment. With the proper equipment, trimming would be easier and more fun. Before you start trimming your trees you must ensure your safety first. We cannot tell when a branch will fall or in any case we might not notice some branches and stems sticking out that might get into the eyes or might cut or scratch the skin. It would be best to wear personal protective equipment such as protective eyewear or goggles, gloves, safety helmet and thick long-sleeved shirts or jackets. It’s always best to have fun while staying safe. So in trimming, there are three best tools to use: the pruning shears, the loppers, and the pole pruner.

Pruning shears are best at cutting small branches or twigs up to 1 inch in diameter for it is small and exactly fits the palm of your hand. There are two kinds of hand pruner; the bypass and anvil. Bypass looked like a pair of scissors and are best for cutting live branches while anvil, which resembles a straight knife are best used in dead twigs. For the loppers, it is longer, stronger and powerful. It can cut branches up to 2 inches thick and at least 2 feet long. It is easy to use, making the trimming faster. It also comes as anvil or bypass. If the branches are hard to reach, it would be best to use pole pruner that can reach up to 10 to 15 feet. Other tools include, a handsaw that prevents you from frequently changing tools; also, a chainsaw that could cut very large branches or even a whole tree, it can save you a lot of time and effort; and lastly a wood chipper that grinds the debris produced by trimming such as large branches into tiny woods, which can still be reused.
Trimming is fun but if you think the tree involves serious safety problems or the branches are large enough for your tools do not hesitate to call an arborist. There’s no harm in shaping your tree just be sure not to cause any damage to it and even to yourself. Sometimes, it would be best if you leave most of the work to the expert.
