palm Tree removal
Palms trees are fascinating with their extreme heights that can reach up to 200 feet. Aside from that some palms, depending on the species, could live more than a century. So there are things you must consider and one them is the palm’s species.
The root system of a palm tree will depend on its species; it will give you an idea on how to remove it. Also, consider the height of the tree, if the tree is taller it is more likely that it will have bigger diameter of roots. It is easier to remove younger trees less than 10 feet tall compared to older trees with larger structures. In removing a palm tree, you can tie a rope on the trunk of the palm tree if the tree is too large and might cause damage, just make sure that each rope is tied with the same distance. Tie the ropes firmly on strong metals, so if the tree will fall, the ropes will have a hold on it. |
If your plan is just to transfer the tree and replant it to another safe place, you might just want to mark the base of the tree and ensure that the roots are included in the circle, but if not you can start right away. Using a shovel, dig at a 45-degree angle following the mark you have made. Make sure not to strike any roots close to the palm for it will help the palm recover from the removal more easily.
Dig deeper until you find the root ball of the tree then slowly remove the tree from the hole. Untie at least 2 ropes to lower the tree and lay it alongside the open hole. You can cut off fronds from the lower crown while the tree is still on the ground, it would be best to remove approximately half of the crown so that during transplanting there would be no excessive transpiration. Secure the new and healthy fronds.
Do not forget to water the trees root ball to moisten the trapped soil and roots. Find a safe position to transplant the tree for it to recover and remember to do it immediately. If in any case, the tree is too large and tall, it would be too risky to perform palm tree removal without an expert. So it is better to get a professional to prevent any threat on your safety.
